YCW Youth Panel

What is it?

  • A dual opportunity - to provide a safe climate discussion forum to support some of our Duke of Edinburgh Award climate skills programme participants, and an opportunity for us, as a charity, to hear directly from some inspirational young people about how we can best provide for them on their climate journey.

  • Our 2025/26 Youth Panel had six members, aged 14-15, from across the UK.  They met online for four highly structured discussion-based sessions, held over the course of the year.

  • Topics discussed included: influencers and (mis)information; green careers; taking action; and getting out and about in nature.

"I feel braver now to talk to others about climate change and the environment."

What’s the impact?

  • Youth Panel insights have directly contributed to updates to our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award climate challenges, and have been beneficial more widely with Trustees and the team.

  • Feedback from our the Youth Panel participants suggests that the experience is a helpful forum for building young people’s skills and confidence.

Youth panel members participated in this 'sources of climate information' exercise.  Tiktok, YouTube and Instagram (in the centre) are some of the most widely used sources, but discussion revealed that schools and news sites achieve a higher trust-rating.
